The Clarence Mustangs Squirt Minor hockey team won the Patriots Day Tournament at Niagara University over President's Day weekend.
Clarence's first win was a 6-0 shutout over Milton from Canada. Erich Thur and Griffen LoVullo each netted two goals while Jordan Brown and JT Buchbinder each added one. Thur and Zach DeVore each had two assists, while Matt Tobias, Jake Pavicich and Amherst resident Sam Kinerk each had one assist.
The Mustangs' second matchup was against Mon Valley out of Pennsylvania. Clarence recorded a second consecutive 6-0 shutout behind goals from LoVullo, Thur, DeVore, Buchbinder and Nick Amodio. Assist were dished out by Tobias, Brown and Thur.
The Mustangs' third game, against the North Buffalo Bisons, proved to be a tighter matchup as Clarence posted a 1-1 tie thanks to Thur's goal off a pass from LoVullo.
The Mustangs' championship game saw them face Monroe (Rochester). Pavicich tallied his first goal of the tournament in the first period off assists from Thur and Buchbinder, while Clarence's second goal came in the second period from Buchbinder, assisted by Pavicich and Thur.
Mustangs' goalie Alex Camarre played well throughout the entire tournament, as he recorded three shutouts and allowed just one goal over the course of the tournament.
