3 Rivers Tournament Champs - January 2008

The Mustangs won their first contest against the Humber Valley Sharks 2-1. Matthew Santora scored from Bryce Kuhn to open the scoring. The Sharks tied the game, and Chris Harvey kept it tied at 1, with a huge save on a Shark’s penalty shot. Jack Attea netted the game winner from Eric Grupp and Dominic Perna. With very strong defensive support from CJ Carle, Ian Fitzgerald, Jared DePerio and Dylan Tomasulo, the Mustangs were able to hold on for the win.
In game two against the Cleveland Chargers, the Mustangs came out flying and dominated the action, but were unable to beat the Chargers goaltender until mid-way through the second period when a shot from the point by CJ Carle found the back of the net. Harrison Oates scored the Mustangs second goal, assisted by Dylan Tomasulo, but one was all the Mustangs needed as Garrett Varisco and Chris Harvey teamed up for the shut out.
In game 3 the Mustangs lost 3-0 to the Pittsburgh Arctic Foxes.
In the finals, the Mustangs faced the team that beat them 6 hours earlier. After a scoreless first, Santora scored assisted by Grupp and Oates. The Mustangs held the 1-0 lead, but with less than 1 second remaining, the Mustangs short handed and the Foxes net empty, the Foxes tied the game sending it to 5 minute sudden death overtime.
The scored remained tied and the game came down to a shootout.
